Rustic Interior Barn Door

This 6' wide by 7' high barn door was constructed out of 200+ yr old reclaimed old growth pine, some of which is understood to be salvaged from a portion of the old Blanco county court house. We counted over 100 growth rings in one 6" six plank!

The customer desired an industrial rustic look.  The antique pine came naturally distressed; (i.e original rough sawn marks, weathering, nail holes, even cheese cloth tacks).  Careful planning was used in board layout and sanding, with the final goal of preserving some of natural distress.  The door was ultimately combined with raw steel hardware per customer request.  There is no stain on this door, just an oil based finish bringing out the natural amber and reddish patina in this wood.

The construction is a fully joined frame consisting of a somewhat hybrid stub mortise/tenon joint, along with semi floating shiplap panels.  The tenon joints are reinforced with horizontal 7" lag bolts, which also add to the industrial desires of the piece.

I performed the final install of the piece, and it was certainly rewarding to be able to repurpose some vintage wood, and give it new life in this barn door.

Double Dog Kennel

8' x 32" custom double dog kennel.  Construction includes 1" thick pine w/ Fusion mineral® water based paint and a water based clear top coat, custom trim, 1/2" painted rolled steel bars throughout, stained flip top lid w/ hand rubbed top coat, accent paneled sides, oil rubbed bronze hardware, curtain rods on front and sides, removable internal center divider.

This kennel was going into an interior space, accenting and complementing the existing furnishings in that space.  Approached this like any other piece of custom furniture with high quality construction, and attention to detail.

Floating Shelves

5 Solid white oak floating shelves ~6ft in length.  Custom stain and finish to color match existing furnishings. Shelves custom routed and bored on the backside to accept and conceal metal bracket hardware.  Brackets support a total weight (including shelf itself) of 160lbs distributed across shelf length.

The white oak grain was quite striking with the finish applied.
